Pain is a blessing in disguise, it is the best thing in this world,
It is a silent teacher, it is the best eye-opener.
It turns the mind towards God, it instils mercy in the heart.
It develops patience, endurance, it strengthens the will power,
Trial is a crucible into which nature throws a man,
Whenever she wishes to mould him into a sublime superman.
Sorrow is false and illusory, it certainly cannot live
Bliss is true and eternal, it certainly cannot die.
Freedom is thy birthright, but not bondage.
Bliss is thy heritage, but not sorrow.
Renunciation will lead you to nobler, higher pursuits
And take you to the pinnacle of spiritual glory and bliss.
The strong raft of knowledge of the Self will take you safely,
Over the stormy waves of great ocean of this dire samsaara.
If the pot is broken, the ether in the pot is not affected,
Even so the soul does not perish, even if the body perishes.
This Aatma is birthless, deathless and decayless,
It is self-luminous, self-existent and self-contained.

Pijn is een zegen in vermomming, ze is het beste ding ter wereld.
Ze is een stille leraar, ze is de beste oogopener.
Ze keert de geest naar God toe, ze wekt mededogen op in het hart.
Ze ontwikkelt geduld, uithoudingsvermogen, ze versterkt de wilskracht.
Beproeving is een smeltkroes waarin de natuur de mens gooit,
Als ze van hem een sublieme superman wil maken.
Zorgen zijn vals en denkbeeldig, ze kunnen beslist niet leven.
Zaligheid is echt en eeuwig, ze kan beslist niet sterven.
Vrijheid is je geboorterecht, niet gebondenheid.
Verzaking zal je leiden naar edeler, hogere doelstellingen
en je meenemen naar het toppunt van spirituele glorie en zaligheid.
Het sterke vlot van Zelfkennis zal je veilig brengen
Over de stormachtige golven van de grote oceaan van deze koude wereld van zintuiglijkheid.
Als de pot wordt gebroken, wordt de ether in de pot niet beïnvloed.
Zo vergaat ook de ziel niet als het lichaam vergaat.
Dit Zelf is ongeboren, onsterfelijk en onvergankelijk.
Het is zelflichtend, op zichzelf bestaand en in zichzelf volstaande.
